Collectively, we call ourselves a “church of Christ” as this is a designation found in the Scriptures for a congregation (Romans 16:16) and one that also glorifies our Lord and Savior to whom we belong. For it is Christ who built the church and purchased it with His own blood (Matthew 16:18, Acts 20:28). Therefore, since we seek to have Christ alone as our head (Colossians 1:18), we are not part of any denominational organization larger than this local congregation.
As a local congregation, we are simply seeking to pattern ourselves after the example of the early church as revealed in the New Testament. We see that as a collective group the early church:
- Taught the lost and upheld the Truth (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Timothy 3:15).
- Edified (built up) one another (Ephesians 4:11-16, 2 Timothy 2:2, John 13:35, 1 Thessalonians 5:11).
- Took care of Christians who were in need (Galatians 6:10, Acts 11:27-30, Acts 2:45).
It is our mission here at Bridgeview to follow these commands and examples as laid out in the New Testament. We seek to convert men to Jesus, not to ourselves. We have no clergy (Matt 23:8-11). We have no doctrine to defend but the Gospel (Matt 15:9, Romans 1:16-17). We believe the Bible is God's truth for man (John 17:17) and that the Scriptures are ALL we need to study and obey to be complete in Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Our headquarters is in heaven where our King, Jesus, now reigns in His kingdom (Ephesians 1:19-23, 1 Peter 3:21-22, Colossians 1:17-18). Simply put, we are trying our best to learn and apply God's will in all areas of our lives as revealed in the Bible (James 1:21-22). We would love to have you worship or study the Bible with us!
